Clinical Expertise

Dr. KC McCandless is a highly skilled optometrist with advanced certification in glaucoma management and a special focus on refractive surgery like LASIK, PRK, and EVO ICL As the Director of Refractive Surgery at The Wellish Abrams Vision Institute, he helps patients improve their vision and reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses. His extensive training includes primary eye care, ocular disease management, and pre- and post-operative surgical care.

Education and Medical Training

Dr. McCandless earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude, with Beta Sigma Kappa honors and OSU honors. While there, he received the college’s Community Outreach Award and completed diverse clinical rotations in primary care, disease management, and surgical co-management. He completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University (BYU), where he was actively involved in service organizations and participated in a life-changing Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH) trip to Mexico. He was able to help examine and distribute more than 15,000 pair of glasses to those in need. That singular event was very influential as it revealed the importance of proper vision care in order for people to perform simple daily tasks as well as enjoy their surrounding environment.

Personal Interests

Since moving to Las Vegas in 2006 with his wife, Dr. McCandless has been a dedicated member of The Wellish Abrams Vision Institute. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys an active lifestyle that includes racquetball, mountain biking, canyoneering, and exploring the outdoors with his three sons.
