What is the iDose Glaucoma Implant?

The iDose® TR (travoprost intracameral implant) is a microscopic, anchored device that continuously releases a prostaglandin analog inside the eye to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT). It’s placed through a tiny clear-corneal incision with an ab-interno approach and anchors at the iridocorneal angle.

Who is a Candidate?

Ideal candidates for iDose include those who: Have been diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension — a requirement for this treatment. Struggle with daily eye drops because they forget doses, have difficulty administering them, or experience bothersome side effects. Have trouble staying consistent with prescribed therapy, including patients who have stopped using their drops. They are not achieving adequate eye-pressure control even while using their current medications.

How the Procedure Works

The iDose® TR procedure is a quick, minimally invasive outpatient treatment where a tiny, titanium implant filled with glaucoma medication is placed inside the eye to release medication over time continuously. Your eye is numbed for comfort, and the surgeon uses a small, precise instrument to insert the implant into the trabecular meshwork—the eye’s natural drainage pathway—through a micro-incision. The implant immediately begins delivering medication directly where it’s needed to lower eye pressure. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes, involves little to no discomfort, and most patients resume normal activities within a day or two.

Safety and Side Effects

In controlled studies, the most common ocular adverse reactions (about 2–6%) included increased IOP, iritis, dry eye, ocular hyperemia, eye pain, visual-field changes, and reduced visual acuity. Your surgeon will review risks, alternatives, and how we monitor healing

Results You Can Plan Around

Pivotal trials demonstrated iDose® TR lowered IOP comparably to a standard pressure-lowering regimen in many patients, supporting its use as a long-duration, intracameral prostaglandin therapy when appropriate. We’ll align expectations with your exact diagnosis and target pressure.

iDose® TR vs. Other Glaucoma Treatment Options

  • Drops: Effective when used consistently; iDose aims to reduce the day-to-day burden for eligible patients.
  • SLT (laser): Another drop-sparing option; suitability depends on your glaucoma stage and anatomy.
  • MIGS or traditional surgery: Considered for specific cases when additional pressure-lowering is required.
