Please note: Wellish Abrams Vision Institute does not provide routine vision exams billed through vision insurance. Our eye exams are focused on the medical evaluation and management of your eye health.
What Is A Comprehensive Eye Exam?
A comprehensive (medical) eye exam is an in-depth evaluation of your eyes and visual system. Unlike a routine vision exam, which primarily focuses on determining whether you need glasses or contact lenses. A comprehensive medical eye exam looks for signs of eye disease, changes in eye health, and conditions that could affect your vision over time.
Your examination may include several different tests depending on your symptoms, medical history, age, and individual eye health needs. A medical eye exam helps our eye doctors understand why your vision may be changing and whether your eyes are healthy.

What Happens During a Comprehensive Eye Exam?
Visual acuity testing to measure how clearly you see at different distances
Eye pressure testing to help evaluate your risk for glaucoma
Pupil and eye movement testing to assess how your eyes respond and work together
Microscopic examination of the eye to evaluate structures such as the cornea, lens, and surrounding tissues
Dilated eye examination to allow your provider to examine the retina, optic nerve, and other structures inside the eye
Additional diagnostic testing when necessary based on your symptoms or findings
When Should You Schedule a Medical Eye Exam?
Consider scheduling an evaluation if you notice:
Blurry or distorted vision
Difficulty seeing at night
Increased glare or halos around lights
Sudden or gradual changes in vision
Eye pain or discomfort
Redness or irritation that does not improve
New floaters or flashes of light
Loss of peripheral vision
Double vision
Increased sensitivity to light
Difficulty reading or completing everyday visual tasks
