Education and Medical Training

Dr. De la Torre completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then earned his medical degree from the Central University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude. During this time, he was selected for the United States Army Health Professionals Scholarship Program and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Following medical school, he completed a transitional internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss before advancing to his ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. While in residency, he received multiple research distinctions and was honored with the Colonel William C. Lloyd III, MD Leadership Award during his time as Chief Resident. He later pursued specialized refractive surgery training at the Warhawk Refractive Surgery Center at Lackland Air Force Base, focusing on advanced LASIK and PRK techniques.

Accolades & Honors

Dr. De la Torre served as an active duty ophthalmologist from 2009 to 2012 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he helped establish the refractive surgery program and later served as Chief of Ophthalmology. His military honors include the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Meritorious Service Medal.
